I am in disgrace. It has been far too long since I wrote. I am not only a blogslacker, I am a writeslacker in general. After writing like a mad fool during November to get to 50K I have only written once since. It has been more than six weeks since I even looked at my story. I need to pick it back up and finish the darn thing.
This has bitten me in the rump before, but I am going to set some writing goals for 2010. I’m not going to put dealines on them, as year-end deadlines are likely to be humiliating enough. I don’t want to get more specific than that. So, by the end of 2010, I will try to do the following:
Silvershield goals:
- Complete the current draft of Silvershield (which is the third draft).
- Combine the first three drafts and tweak as necessary to create the fourth draft.
- Edit the fourth draft for content/context to create the fifth draft.
- Send the fifth draft to my faithful alphas for dissection.
- Assuming they get it back to me, create the sixth draft using their feedback and start shopping the book to agents.
Non-Silvershield goals:
- Rewrite Derelicts and submit it to a qualifying SFWA professional market besides Strange Horizons (since they already turned it down).
- Write another short story for submission to Strange Horizons.
- Write another short story and get it making the rounds as well.
- Complete NaNoWriMo 2010 without involving Silvershield in any way.
To boil it down, my goals this year are:
- to get Silvershield to my alphas and possibly beyond–to start shopping it around.
- to have (at least) three short stories making the submission rounds.
- to complete my third NaNoWriMo.
It’s ambitious. It’s probably too ambitious, given my tendency to not write when I intend to. I suspect I’ll be lucky to get even halfway to my goals. Still, I’m going to try. Wish me luck, and keep checking back to see what happens.
